Freevo è un software di gestione e visualizzazione video,ma descriverlo così sarevve riduttivo.
Iniziamo a dire che Freevo è un software LINUX/BSD rilasciato sotto GPL e che PS3 Megabox Homebrew Project , un gruppo spagnolo, ha portato su PS3,attaverso il petiboot loader e la capacità della ps3 di usare distro Linux.
Freevo permette in sostanza di gestire la intera collezione multimediale su ps3 musica,video,foto attraverso una interfaccia a schermo e una interfaccia remota web, dove puoi vedere la guida TV e programmare registrazioni in qualunque posto ci sia un computer dal quale collegarsi. il beneficio di Freevo, se usato con HDPC, è che assicura una completa libertà rispetto al DRM.in breve il sistema HDCP non potrà intervenire per bloccare contenuti video o audio non autografi.
Altro vantaggio è la grande possibilità nella lettura formati.
